Academic Offerings

Since its founding in 1870, Georgetown Law has lived by its guiding principle, “law is but the means, justice is the end.” With more than 125 full-time professors, a roster of adjunct faculty recruited from the ranks of Washington’s legal elite, and a community of 2,000 J.D. and LL.M. students, Georgetown Law is the largest law school in the nation. From a campus located within blocks of the U.S. Congress that enacts laws, the Supreme Court that interprets them, and the agencies that enforce them, Georgetown Law enjoys unique access to the world of law and legal practice. Our 19 legal clinics and 26 centers and institutes tackle issues from health, environmental and human rights law to juvenile justice, national security, tech and business law, providing students with opportunities to hone their research and advocacy skills from the very beginning of their legal careers.

Georgetown Law’s curriculum is one of the largest and most comprehensive of any law school in the world. Each year, we offer more than 500 courses at the J.D. level and more than 300 courses for graduate students. Today, Georgetown-trained lawyers — “Hoya Lawyas” — are worldwide, making valuable contributions to law and to society — from private practice to public office, business to academia and public service.

Our new, state-of-the art building just steps away from the U.S. Capitol, puts our students at the center of the policy world, giving them unprecedented access to experiential learning, service and career opportunities.

Public policies are more effective when our political and policy decision makers reflect the perspectives and lived experiences of the communities they serve. This is why the McCourt School aspires to be the most inclusive public policy school in the nation. From day one, our students are given a grounding in the quantitative and analytical tools needed to design and measure the effectiveness of policy solutions, but also in leadership, ethics, communications and other skills needed to work across differences.

The McCourt School offers four rigorous Master’s degree programs in public policy, data science for public policy, international development policy and policy management; eight dual degree programs; and six global opportunities. In collaboration with Georgetown’s College of Arts & Sciences, the McCourt School also offers an undergraduate degree in public policy. The A.B. in Public Policy is a unique program that combines a liberal arts and policy-focused social science curriculum with living and learning opportunities on Georgetown’s Hilltop and Capitol Campuses.

In 2025, the School of Continuing Studies will be moving to the Capitol Campus from its current downtown location at 640 Massachusetts Ave NW. The Georgetown School of Continuing Studies offers professional master’s degrees and certificates in industry-leading subjects taught by adjunct faculty who are experts in their fields. Ideal for working professionals, our programs are available full-time, part-time, online and in-person — so you don’t have to interrupt your career to continue your education. Beyond our professionally geared programs, SCS also houses the English Language Center where you can improve your English language proficiency and enhance your language teaching; the Liberal Studies Program which offers a bachelor’s completion program and master’s and doctoral programs; and the Summer Programs administrative office which runs programs on Main Campus for hundreds of high school, undergraduate and graduate students.

The Earth Commons — Georgetown University’s Institute for Environment & Sustainability — shapes the future of our planet by building, supporting and infusing environmental and sustainability research, education and action throughout the Georgetown University community and beyond. Bridging the Hilltop, the Capitol Campus and global sites, the Earth Commons blends disciplines to weave together the arts, sciences and humanities to tackle the world’s most pressing issues. Undergraduates in the Joint Environment & Sustainability degree, graduates in the MS in Environment & Sustainability and other future graduate programs, as well as research and teaching faculty and post-doctoral fellows will redefine how we “Care for our Common Home” in community spaces, classrooms, research and teaching labs on the Capitol Campus.

BS in Environment & Sustainability

Georgetown University’s College of Arts & Sciences and The Earth Commons jointly offer the innovative Bachelor of Science in Environment & Sustainability to prepare students for a lifetime of environmental changemaking. With two years on the Hilltop and two years on the Capitol Campus and at international locations, students explore interdisciplinary topics, experiential research and learning, global perspectives, and professional and personal development.

Joint Bachelors in Public Policy

The College of Arts & Sciences and the McCourt School of Public Policy jointly offer a Bachelors of Arts in Public Policy, with a policy-focused interdisciplinary and experiential curriculum that combines the liberal arts and social sciences. Students will experience a diverse and immersive coursework that emphasizes statistics, economics, political analysis, and policy implementation.

Special Master’s Program in Physiology

Established in 1975, the Georgetown University Special Master’s Program (SMP), offered at the Capitol Campus or on the Hilltop , is the foremost program of its kind for future medical students. The one-year M.S. in Physiology program is tailored to college graduates who wish to strengthen their credentials for application to U.S. medical schools. More than 85% of SMP graduates are admitted into medical schools across the country.

At the Capitol Applied Learning Labs (CALL), students pursue their personal and professional goals while experiencing all that the nation’s capital has to offer. A semester-based, residential undergraduate program at Georgetown’s Capitol Campus, students at the CALL venture out of the classroom through experiential courses, fellowships and professional experiences curated to help them discern their CALLing in the heart of Washington, DC. This program is open to undergraduate students beginning in their sophomore year and on from all schools and majors.
