Take Sustainable Action

The Green Office Program is a voluntary and flexible program that empowers Georgetown faculty and staff to adopt sustainable practices and create environmentally responsible workspaces.

Georgetown’s Annual Move Out Drive encourages community members to donate their gently-used items to benefit local communities in need and to support the university’s waste diversion goals. Donated items are given to local non-profit partners in the DC regional area. In 2025, drives at the Hilltop and Capitol Campus collected over 50,000 lbs of donated goods, valued at over $430,000.

Designing a sustainable event can be easy and meaningful–it just takes intentional planning. The Office of Sustainability’s Sustainable Events Guide is just one tool available to ensure Capitol Campus events reflect Georgetown’s value to Care for Our Common Home.

The Office of Sustainability has developed easy-to-use guides to educate and increase sustainable practices in the areas of recycling, energy conservation, commuting, sustainable purchasing, green events, printing, and travel.

Through strategic partnerships and planning with campus stakeholders, the Office of Sustainability mobilizes sustainable ways of being and enhances business practices at Georgetown. The Sustainability Strategic Plan outlines the strategic priorities that will advance Georgetown toward a more sustainable future and the strategic initiatives required to address these priorities.
